Poor Customer Care
OK, now with my laptop gone completely bonkers, I can't post as often for a couple of weeks at least. My dear laptop (a fabulous Fujitsu Siemens) was supposedly a top of the shelf one at the time of purchase. So does a product being top of the shelf makes it a superior product ? HELL NO, I had to discover the bitter reality first hand, I mean my laptop is soooo "break down" prone to an extent of breaking down every 2-4 months. Why? Not really sure ! Especially in this day and age with all the Total quality management used by manufacturing companies ! :x
Anyhow I am not going to rant about the laptop this time (Already done that), but what I am going to talk about this time is the awful service us customers receive here in Bahrain. You name it, it doesn't matter what is the value of your purchase nor where you purchased it from it is always the something over here ! :x
Delayed parts, poor customer care, promises and deadlines which are unkept is something of the norm over here ! Why ? well, I've dropped my laptop 4 days ago and was told that I would be contacted early the next day. 96 hours later (4 days) I heard nothing from the Apple Center, so I had to call them just to discover that they didn't even know what I exactly wanted "it's JUST a lousy quotation" ! Not only that; they didn't look at the main problem either "fried mother board"! Now I have to wait for god knows how long, just to be told that there is nothing wrong with the laptop and the fault is user inflected ! :x
What ever happened to "The customer is always right" statement ? Come to think about it, I don't think that we actually had this moto applied here in Bahrain (EVER). :x
These are the so called user inflected faults that I've had:
1- 2 faulty DVD +RW Drives.
2- a faulty keyboard.
3- 2 fried motherboard.
4- a fried power supply.
5- Dodgy speakers
6- A broken casing (ok this one is user inflected) :P
All this and the laptop is only a year and a half old ?!
Wrapping up this rant, I have learnt the following lessons:
1- Fujitsu Siemens are bad manufacturers of laptops
2- The customer is always wrong "in Bahrain at least"
3- NEVER EVER take advice from Khalid ! He's the one who bigged up this lousy brand "used to have a faulty FS laptop too" :P

They take a beating and are light as a feather. I have been a devoted fan of the Toughbook for 4 years now since dropping my CF48, it bounced and was still running! I swear the thing said to me "is that all you can dish out, mister?!".

I havent had much luck with laptops either.
I bought a compaq 3 yrs ago and I have been having problems since day 1. And they refused to admit that the laptop is faulty. They even come to check the power supply in my room, since they cannot figure out why the laptop is not performing as it should. When I sent it for servicing, the service engineer even used it to view some XXX site. Saw it in the history. Can you beat that ? I lodged a complain, but they denied it, and their boss kept a deaf ears. I swear I will not buy another compaq products in Bahrain.
Next I bought a Toshiba. Another unlucky purchase, the keyboard was not functioning properly, but they replaced it immediately. So far the toshiba has been working fine.And I dont mind getting a toshiba for my next laptop. It has a 3 yr international warranty too.
But I like the sony vaio too... its so cool.
I need to save a fortune for that.
Now before buying any laptop or pc, I checked out the after sales service center first, because it is very important to get to know what kind of organisation they are.
If you want my vote... I would suggest a toshiba.

Hmmm I'm afraid that I haven't heard of the Panasonic laptops but I'd have to admit having a loptop dropped and still functioning as if nothing happened is very impressive ! :o mine would stop functioning if I sneeze on it ! :P

I buy a compac presario 900 4 years a go in new york .. till now mashaallah. still good some times get hot , but I buy a external fan and this keepit cool ...I like my laptop now is a bit old and I want to chang it for a mac .. Hubby refuced because the softwer wont be from Microsoft and he say that every thing will be a mess thatI will need to buy a new softwer for the mac and he is right ... anyhow I wish to have a biger screan for my paint pixel things and for my digital scrabook , I had search for a new laptop but definelly I wont buy it in here , firts the prices here are crasy for a good one , and second the warranty ...I mean If i buy it here and then i leave where im going to claime ? LOL .. so maybe hubby will bring me one in his way back to bahrain (december) I really hope so ... I wana get a DELL hubby knows very well about computers heheheh .. and he say that DELL is the best in the market .. so probabily is the one I will get .. I just want some thing light , and wide on the escrean and of curse with a big memory ram :)

hehehe,, Munther I hate to say this But I TOULD YOU SO, Those FS started to laptops only 1 year b4 you bought one, i did recommend the VAIO, Dell and Toshiba for you but did you listen, well never the less now, try 24/7 hammering technique with the Apple Center (Duh Munther, they are Apple Center why did you by a Windows based from them, next time go to PC Center :P )

Two things, the first being the fact that you'll write about the laptop, I sensed it the moment you told me you didn't hear from them the next day. The second being the inclusion of my name, I knew you'll do it hehe.
Well I have to agree with Mo on the fact that that FS are quite faulty, I've had a turbulent experience with one, a phase I tend to call "Nightmarish ownership of a laptop". My struggle though was 3 years and involved the following:
- changing of the CD drive.
- changing of the screen.
- uncalled for closure failures where I've managed to revive the laptop by fluke.
- 3 hardware failures (for some reason it happens april of every year) with the third being deadly.
If you think customer service sucks in Bahrain, try fixin your computer here in the UK. It's the hardest thing I've ever tried to fix and I had to do it for 3 years. To make things worse, I had insurance. I've had sooo many fights with them, you already know the stories Mo.
All in all, in the end and as a result of the deadly 3rd hardware failure where fixing the laptop was "economically not feasible", I got the insurance to buy me a new laptop for the same price as the original one. The result, I became the proud owner of a VAIO.
To everyone besides Mo, I'd recommend it :D.

Oh no Munther, you too? Well I've had an FS laptop since 2004, only a month back it started displaying weird stuff whenever I turned it on and the display was so fuzzy. I switched it to monitor mode thinking it was the lcd display but the same thing appeared! I thought there was some kind of virus so I formatted and still the same, I think the graphics card is busted, cuz when I opened the lid and cleaned the inside with a blower, the display did get a BIT better, still the same tho, so I will be taking it to those lame apple centre people and let's hope they know what the hell is wrong with it. And if the repair bill will be high then I will be better off with a new laptop. I've had two Dells before that and they were perfect, one of which still works although if you dont keep the screen at an angle, it will simply fall down and close! Despite all that abuse and the case is broken in some parts, it still works well. I went for this FS because of the graphics card it came with cuz I play online games which require heavy graphics. I also went for an Acer laptop which was great but sold it a couple of months later. This time if I go for a laptop, if budget allows I will be trying out an HP cuz I found one with a great price at Geant. Dell XPS is great for gaming but it's a bit bulky which almost makes it a desktop PC, and all that power also means that it will be drinking up battery power like a fish and the price tag is ridiculously high. Toshibas are the best but are on the higher price ranges.

Gazza: I agree with you gaz, Laptops are not as solid as PCs but don't let my bad experience put you off ! I've always thought that laptops are useless until I got this laptop, now with it gone nuts, I'll still get myself a laptop (better one and more carefully picked this time) :)
Lib team: welcome to the faulty FS club mate ! It seems that we all agree on Dells being solid :) About the XPS being a gaming laptop, well I am not much of a gamer ! I won't need all the power especially with the only game I play "Championship Manager" not requiring much ! :P I'll have a look at the MacBooks tonight ! :)

Hi munther you have a nice blog there. I want to share my experience with laptops and the sun.
I used to have Toyota laptop which was nice but it broke down and had to take it to the dealership for repair, then they told me that Toyota doesn't make laptops and they make cars! What a sudden shift in their industry! So I threw it in the garbage bin and went to geant and bought IBM laptop which is very ugly, but I bought it bcoz people say I am ugly so I bought something that fits me, after all they say always buy stuff that represents you. Right? But performance is not too bad and it is running solid. About the specs, it says Intel Inside Centrino and Designed for Windows XP.
As for the sun, I donno why it always threatens to stroke me with its immense heat whenever I go out on the streets to walk. Even when it's night I see the sun on the other side giving me that threatening look!

I have an hp here from UAE, I had to format it after only 2 months, I think they need to make laptops more flexible, like desktops or something.
