Google Office ?

You all might have heard of Google’s acquisition of the online word processor “Writely”, everybody who is anybody have heard of writely if not than well, you have been living in a cave or something !! Writley possesses many dinky features which can rival Microsoft’s mighty Word processor. In my opinion the main advantage of using the program is the ability to save your work online in a password protected account (2 Gigs) which means that you can access (ALL) your documents anywhere in the world without the need of using flashsticks, floppies or cds.
And as if this wasn’t enough Google announced this month, the launch of Google Spreadsheets its latest member of what will be called “Google’s Office”. So who are Google’s office members (so far):

Word Processor:

Spreadsheets:

Database:

Photo manager:

Mail:

Calendar and organizer:

So will this be the beginning of the end of MS dominance of the productivity suites market ? Time will only tell !!

Well, do you consider these features provided by Google as good or bad or both? To give you more hints, Word provided by Microsoft can be dealt with offline, however, Googles is opposite, thus, Google knows what document you wrote, saved, or deleted, so does this somehow breach/invade your privacy or what?

Well, like everything in life, I think Goffice (if we may call it that) has its advantages and disadvantages. I guess one of the main disadvantages would be that you can't cut and paste from the different members of the suite unless you have different browser windows opened !! But if we gave this a blind eye, what I really like about this suite is that it offers the accessibility, mobility and flexibility which traditional productivity suites lack.

Concerning the privacy aspect of the service, I think all of us have online email accounts ;as we all know; by agreeing on the privacy statement, the service provider has no right to abuse, breach or invade its clients privacy, unless they are asking for a date at the court ;P
