Peanuts can whistle
What an end to a very slow week, I mean nothing can beat a dragging week but a dull Friday ! ;) The problem with dull Fridays is that they make you think that bad ideas are actually good ! :P we've been trying to teach our pet parrot (Peanuts) to talk for ages with no success, so I decided on spending the whole day teaching her to at least say "HI" (had to do it, especially after watching "Pirates of the Caribbean 2") :D. Anyway to cut a long story short ! After a couple of angry bites and loads of scratches, I am happy to announce that our dear Peanuts have finally managed to whistle ! yes, not exactly what I was expecting but still she managed to mimic my whistle ! B) :D So next Friday I'll be teaching her "Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate's life for me." :P

heheh hello lib,
Thanks for the moral support ! your comment made my day ! hehehe I guess every parrot has its own personality.

Good job, now within a few weeks, she'll be able to say hello hehe.
If you want speedy results, we'll take peanuts to my grandma's house to mingle with my uncle's parrots, especially that crazy one that I call Beethoven. Within no time, not only will Peanuts be able to talk, but also sing symphonies.

We have two of these birds.. the girls don't talk. I think you have a girl, unless there's a light blue/pink ring around it's neck. If so, then it's a boy and he'll talk. Get yourself a boy... they'll love each other and he'll talk loads! But you have to work w/ them for at least 20 mins a day.
Glad to see that you're an animal lover. Animals bring such joy to your life.

Thats true :) animals do bring joy, and yeah peanuts is a girl :) she doesn't have the ring around her nick and like all girls, she's got quite a temper. :D
Might go with your advice and go for a male but I'm not sure whether she'll like it, She likes to be the centre of attention ! :D

Our female, Oprah, is the same way! She and Stedman were mates when we got them and he adores her. She loves the attention and screams if I leave the room too quickly and such. I used to let them out all the time and she'd chase me around the room trying to bite me! My husband would laugh and tell me to let her bite me, which I did a few times, but dang, it hurts! She's quite the sweetest lil thing though!
Our housemaid hated this bird and before we finally got rid of the housemaid, something started happening to Oprah. I thought she was being poisoned, but I'm not sure. I think it was some type of nerve damage. I questioned the housemaid but she denied everything. Oprah is better now, probably 80% better, but I can tell that something happened to her. She likes to come out of her cage, as before, but now she refuses to fly down to the floor. And she's wobbly a lot and doesn't seem real clear headed. I feel so badly for her, but I'm just really happy that she's alive and survived whatever it was that happened.
If you get a boy, I'd put him in a separate cage to begin w/, next to hers. Let them get used to each other that way first. Gradually, you could introduce them to each other. If you look up on the net, there's loads of info out there on these birds.
