To Mac or NOT Mac !

Lately I have been looking at replacements for my deceased Fujitsu Siemens laptop, with the disaster of an experience in mind; I decided to be VERY careful this time.

During the past 10 days, I've had a thorough look at all the famous brands; none of them tickled my fancy (either too low in specs or NO warranty extension option, the last seems to piss salesmen off "I wonder why ?! :x").

Having bought my old laptop from the Apple Center I've decided to pop in to the showroom to have a look at what they have to offer (not interested in Fujitsu Siemens though :x). And the instance I had my eyes on the new Mackbook range I couldn't help but fall in love with the ultra portable sturdy machines.

The specs were quite impressive as well and I have always wanted to have a Mac, went through a phase (Uni years) where I emulated the Mac look (on my DELL) thanks to aqua-soft.org ! Don't worry those days are long gone though :P

Anyway back to the subject, now that I can afford a Mac (Finally sorted out my finances :P) should I go for a Mac? It seems that who ever I ask comes up with the a negative response ! For example all the computer geeks I know were like do NOT do it, my mates (engineers:P) were like what about our beloved engineering software (Especially you Mohammed Alhamar :P) and finally my family were just reminding me of what everyday joes think of Macs (Image and newspaper publishing machines).

All this left me with a dilemma on top of a splitting headache, plus a question that keeps ringing in my head no matter what I do "To Mac or NOT to Mac ?" :p :D
iWant this :P

Hello MSB..

It seems that more and more people are going through this, Macs are amazing and hassle free or that's what everybody on the web says. Seen a presentation done by keynote and let me tell you my friend it made me weep ! the best presentation I ever saw in my life. But still surely this is not a reason to do the switch ! :P or is it ?

hi Munther,
Mac powerbook is great, especially if you are in design/advertising/graphic industry.
One of my colleague has a mac, she bought it fr Singapore. We have a very good support and after sales service in Singapore but I cannot vouch for that in Bahrain.Let me not say anything negative against them since this is Ramadhan. Something that is better left unsaid...( know what I mean ? )
It is great for design specially for illustrator but it is not compatible with certain design software that we are using.
But if its for personal use at home, should be ok.
To be on the office networking, you have to sort out a few things, if the rest of the office is using pc.
I have been looking at mac for sometime, but i am not confident of the after sales service here.

With that I rest my case.

Just go for it man.. I can guarantee you that in three months' time you will be kicking yourself silly for wasting the best part of your life doing Windows!

Believe me, I was a Mac guy in '91 - '95, then windows, then I just bought a MacBook (13", not pro) and never looked back.

I can offer you as much help as you need to run it the way you run Windows to connect to office service etc...

Do Nike and do it!

I fully agree with Mahmood, let all those years of waitin and speculatin come to an end, go for it big time and check it out for real, then you'll really know what you're dealin with. To be honest with you, you'll love it, I can feel it and just knowing you really good, am sure you'll be over the moon. Ya keep me updated :).

Ammoontie, all my Singaporean friends have Macs. I checked out one of the stores in Singapore last year and boy was there demand. It seems there is a strong Mac-Singapore bond ;).

Hello all,

amoontie: I've heard that Macs are very popular at Singapore, as for the after sales over here; well; I think it shouldn't be an issue if I bought the care pack, should it ? Oh yeah and I am intersted in the ice white Macbook not the pro line, price is a bit steep ! :P

Mahmood: Thanks for the encouragement mahmood, I am actually interested on the white macbook with an upgrade (1gig) ram :) BTW how's the development at Mac user group project ? I am very interested in helping making it a reality ! :)

Khalid: Will surely do cuz ! Fingers crossed hope this excitement doesn't end with an experience similar to the one I had FJS

If you like, I can arrange to send you a Mac to try for a couple of days before you decide whether to go for Mac or stick to Windows. I can even arrange to pre-load it with both OS X and Windows. Contact me on 17 574 333 during the working week (Sun - Thu)...

Good luck deciding...

Hi Sofyan,
Thanks for coming to the rescue. I guess Munther will be convinced now to get a Mac. If Munther succeeded and having a ball with his Mac, we might all be tempted as well. Just please promise us that you will not let us down in the after sales service department.
It is really hard to find a dealer that is bankable.

Welcome Hamad, Sofyan and Haitham.

Haitham, you made a good point which I totally forgot about, which is not worrying about viruses.
